Oba Benjamin Oluwafemi Omoleewo Becomes Elekun of Ilekun Land
Ilekun, an ancient community in Akure South Local Government Area of Ondo State was agog on Thursday, 15th December, 2022 as HRM, Oba Benjamin Oluwafemi Omoleewo officially received instrument and staff of office from the Ondo State Government.
At the grand event held at the palace of Ilekun and witnessed by other royal fathers, top government functionaries, sons and daughters of the communities among others, the Governor of Ondo State, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu while congratulating members of the community reeled out some of his administration’s effort in meeting the needs and yearnings of the people.
The Governor, ably represented by the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Charles Titiloye also used the occasion to charge traditional heads to continue to support the government in its strides saying the day’s event is as a result of scaling through due process recognized by the law.
Giving his remarks, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon Akinwumi Sowore while congratulating the monarch for scaling through, said government will continue to engage traditional rulers through robust engagement towards meetings the needs of the people.
He also used the occasion to express congratulations to members of the community just as he urged them to support the king in achieving all his aspirations.
Speaking shortly after receiving his staff of office, Oba Omoleewo thanked Gov. Akeredolu and other members of his cabinet mostly the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Sowore Esq. for making the day a reality.
Oba Omoleewo who said Gov. Akeredolu met his over 39 years aspiration by elevating and recognizing him as the first king in Ilekun kingdom further applauded him for his merritorius service to humanity.
On some of the needs of the community, Oba Omoleewo said the community has earmarked 8 plots for public school, 4 plots for Comprehensive Health Centre and another 4 plots for modern market, urging government to assist in building the structures.
While also assuring of his continuous support to the government, Oba Omoleewo urged more people to bring their investment into the area which he described as peaceful and friendly.
The climax of the event was the official presentation of letter of appointment and Staff of office to the monarch by the Governor of Ondo State.
Earlier in his welcome address, the Executive Chairman, Akure South Local Government, Hon..Barr. Gbenga Olaniyi while appreciating the state government most especially expressed congratulations to the monarch and members of his community on attaining government’s recognition.
In a chat with newsmen, some of the chiefs and residents described the king as God fearing just as they prayed for a continuous peaceful reign on the throne of his fathers.
