Ondo 2024: Barr. Olumuyiwa Adu Throws Weight Behind Governor Aiyedatiwa
Akure born All Progressive Congress (APC), Dr. ( Barr.) Olumuyiwa Adu yesterday engaged media executives in a press briefing where he shared thoughts on good governance and highlighted some of the things the present Governor, Hon. Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa can do to ensure there is optimal level of productivity in the state.
Dr. Adu who said he believes in the Governor and have pitched his tent with him said as long as he is ready to work, he needs to surround himself with the right set of people that can help translate his ideas into legacies that can be remembered in the state.
Speaking on a wide range of topics ranging from economy, business, and government structures, Dr. Adu said democracy in Nigeria as a whole has a long way to go as the system is faulty.
According to him, when there is a good system, things will work.
“When we talk about governance, a lot comes to play. You need to get the knowledge and acquire additional skills. You must also have the fear of God in order to be a good leader”.
“Democracy in Nigeria has a long way to go. The system is faulty. The money we are wasting in government is what we should invest in building our structures”
“Some says government should not get involved in business. Who say? In the past when we had Water Corporation and all of that, it worked out well for us as a nation”
“The Chinese people will never bring Julius Berger to come and do roads in their country. They will look inward. I keep saying it, the cost of governance is too much”, he added saying the way to go is sustenable investment where countries in need of raw materials can be asked to come in and build structures.
“The Chinese are looking for palm oil to import, bring them to build their offices near where the raw material is. We see things working in US and yet they are not as disciplined as we are. The system is the cause of our problem in this country. We lack data. We can’t even tell the accurate number of those in the civil service. How do you give someone N30,0000.00 minimum wage and expect him to be productive and not corrupt? Why must you bring someone from Kano to police Ibadan”.
“Until such a time whem we cut down the cost of governance and appoint people who are financially okay on their own to run the government, we will continue to experience these problems”, he added.
On whether he would make a good Deputy Governor if appointed, Dr. Adu said he is qualified just like any other person for the position noting particularly that he will not fail on moral and technical grounds of ability.
