OLUBAKA OF OKA KINGDOM LEADS SUMMIT ON PRICE CONTROLS TO EASE ECONOMIC HARDSHIP
On May 21, 2024, a summit on price controls was held at Town Hall in Oka Akoko, Akoko Southwest Local Government Area of Ondo State. The event, convened by the Olubaka of Oka Kingdom, His Royal Majesty Oba Dr. Yusuf Adebori Adeleye (OON), aimed to address the escalating prices of commodities and provide relief to the local economy.
The summit saw a significant turnout, including High Chief Matthew Ofosola, the Chairman of the Chiefs in Council, along with all high chiefs and other council members. Market leaders and representatives from various market associations were present, alongside the Oka Youth Leader and union leaders from the motorcycle and bus transportation sectors.
In his address, HRM Oba Dr. Yusuf Adebori Adeleye appealed to market women to moderate their profit margins and promote direct transactions between sellers and consumers. He emphasized the importance of fair pricing to alleviate the economic burden on residents. The Olubaka also urged union leaders to reduce transportation fares for motorcycles and buses, thereby easing travel costs for commuters.
High Chief Matthew Ofosola supported the Olubaka’s call, urging leaders of relevant associations to meet with market women and drivers to discuss price reductions. He highlighted the need for cooperative efforts to implement these changes as a means of providing relief to the people of Akoko Southwest.
Responding to the Olubaka’s address, the youth leader and several association leaders committed to sensitizing traders about the summit’s resolutions on price controls. They assured that efforts would be made to ensure compliance with the directives aimed at stabilizing prices within the local government area.
Chief Dr. Pius Ajobiewe, the Oru of Ejo Mefa, reported on the event and managed the media, ensuring that the discussions and resolutions reached at the summit were effectively communicated to the public.
The summit represents a collaborative effort by traditional leaders, market associations, and transportation unions to address the pressing issue of rising commodity prices and to work towards economic stability in Akoko Southwest Local Government.
