My priority for now is to bring human beings up – High Chief David Bakare
High Chief David Amusa Akuresanmi Bakare, is the Ojomu of Oda town. He spoke with The Focus Magazine Publisher, Ayodele Ologunola, during his general thanksgiving, at Christ Apostolic Church, Oke-Isegun, Oda town recently. Excerpt
You are celebrating your birthday today, what is the reason for doing it
It’s not even thanksgiving alone, because I have decided to postpone it till today. I was born on the 7th of June, which is Friday. It is general thanksgiving because of what God has done in my life early this year. Early this year, I faced a lot of challenges, but I thank God I overcame them. That was the reason for inviting different people to come and celebrate the goodness of God with me.
The thought of human beings is that one should not be alive today, but I thank my God that I’m alive. Early this year, I was down with a sickness in which I was taken to a teaching hospital in Ondo, where I spent some months on a sick bed. I thank God that l left the place in good health. This is enough reason to thank God, Because if I decided not to thank Him, whatever might be the other way may not be forthcoming. That is why I decided to thank God.
What are your experiences in life?
I have a lot of experiences in life, but today I will not speak about them. Let us leave it till another day. The most important thing I want people to do is to help me thank God.
But I must also thank my immediate family who stood by me during my sickness. I can’t thank them enough, it’s only the Almighty God that can appreciate them on my behalf. I must thank my immediate brother, the Olu of Aiyede, Oba Jimoh Bakare for his support for me. When things got tougher, he stood behind me. Also, my woman of inestimable value who stood with me. Going up and down, there was a time she fell from the staircase because I was on the fifth floor of the hospital.
What are your words of advice?
Before my words of advice, I want to tell everyone that if someone is about to clock age of sixty, they should be very careful. As for me now, I don’t have anything to do than work with God. I’m now ready to serve Him with all of my heart, and also to serve my community. If God provide a vehicle or house for me, I will not reject it, because they are not my priority.
My priority for now is how to bring human beings up, how to develop human beings and make sure they do not suffer.
I want to advise my people that whatever comes their way, they only need to move closer to their God. There is nothing above Almighty God. It is Him who is in charge of everything.
