Barr. Victor Olatoyegun hosts Oroke High School Alumni Association (81 set), Akungba Akoko
The Alumni Association of Oroke High School, Akungba Akoko (81 set) recently held it’s general meeting at Liberty Gardens, Oba-Ile, Akure North Local Government, area of Ondo.
The meeting was attended by members of the 81 set from far and near to discuss the development of their alma mata, Oroke High School.
In his welcome address on behalf of the president, the host, Barr. Victor Olatoyegun, thanked his old colleagues for their contributions to development of their alma mata.
He said, “we’re here today to discuss on how to develop of our alma mata, Oroke High School, Akungba Akoko and how to fellowship together.
We left the school forty three (43) years ago, which is not a joke. The fact that we are alive, we have to thank God.”
Olatoyegun particularly, acknowledged the positive leadership of Otunba Tunji Jibreel (the President of the Association) for facilitating “Ondo Care” Project (a sixteen million project) into the school, which involves renovating of four classrooms, construction of two toilets and and a host of others. This is unprecedented, he said.
He said, what we are discussing today in our meeting is on how to facilitate other projects into the school like, computer automation and others. This is the only way to add value to our alma mata.
In his own speech the President, Tunji Jibreel (Proprietor of Dejavu Hotel and Suites, Akure, emphasized that the government alone cannot do everything for our schools hence, the complimentary efforts of old students.
We the old students need to plough back to the society from what we have achieved. People has been looking on to old students.
He called on all members to be associated with their alma mata, noted that this will also help them reconnect with old friends colleagues.
According to him “old friends are better than new friends.”
Speaking further with The Focus Magazine, the president, Olatunji Jibreel said, the 81 set of Oroke High School has made a giant stride in the provision of infrastructure to the school.
He urged all the students who are still at (Oroke High School) to take their study seriously because there is nothing we can compare with education. He said education is the best legacy one can bestow to the children.
Speaking at the occasion Olukayode Mayowa revealed that the common practice is for every set of the old students to meet regularly and constitute a central body to organize the affairs of the general association.
He and others in attendance were very happy for meeting old colleagues once again.
Among those identified at the meeting include Chief Cornelius Agbomoniyi, Chief Lateef Iwasokun, Messrs Bode Omiye, Sam Ogunsusi, Mayowa, Lamidi Ogunlowo, Pastor Ogbeye ( former Director, Ministry of Education, Ondo State), etc.
One of the old students, Rotimi Williams Agede the (Proprietor of Wexford College International) who also attended the meeting in solidarity said, God has been gracious to all the old students of Oroke High School, as they have been enjoying the grace of God in their chosen careers.
He advised the old students to demonstrate the quality they learned from the school and continue to be good ambassador of the school.
