Major Blocked Drainage Cleared as DHDEI and Partners Conduct Klean-Up Akoko Exercise in Akungba-Akoko
Next Exercise Set for Ayede-Ogbese on November 30th*
The Dakiz Human Development and Empowerment Initiative (DHDEI), in collaboration with Federal Government Agencies, Federal Road Safety Corp and Environment Health Workers and other local organizations such as the Akoko South West Youth Forum, YAN Ondo North, Akungba Youths Forum has organized a successful “Klean-Up Akoko” exercise in Akungba-Akoko.
The initiative was focused on environmental sanitation and safety, aimed at enhancing public health and reducing traffic hazards caused by blocked drainage systems.
The exercise began at exactly 7:00 a.m. at the main gate of Adekunle Ajasin University, with particular attention given to a long-neglected accident spot where a trailer had been abandoned in a drainage for years.
This site had accumulated a heavy growth of weeds, posing severe drainage and safety issues in the area. Volunteers and officials worked diligently for over two hours, ultimately clearing the blocked drainage and restoring proper water flow.
Although the clean-up exercise was originally scheduled to conclude at Supara-Akoko Junction, significant time was devoted to clearing the accident site, which had been a major safety concern.
The operation officially concluded at Ibaka Market by 10:30 a.m., leaving a positive impact on the local environment and significantly reducing the risks posed by flooding and drainage overflow in the area.
DHDEI and its partners have announced that the next Klean-Up Akoko event will take place on Saturday, November 30, 2024, in Ayede-Ogbese, with expectations of further community participation and support.
The initiative continues to emphasize the importance of community involvement in promoting a cleaner, safer environment across Ondo State.
