In 2024: DHDEI Empowers 522 Youths Through Skill Acquisition
In a move to tackle youth unemployment and foster sustainable development, the Dakiz Human Development and Empowerment Initiative (DHDEI) has successfully facilitated free skill acquisition training for 522 youths in 2024.
The initiative, spearheaded by the organization’s founder, Akingbade Toluwa-Jolomi, and supported by key partners, has been hailed as a transformative intervention in the lives of young people across multiple communities and institutions in the state.
DHDEI partnered with experts in various industries to provide training centers for practical, hands-on learning.
The programmes covered an impressive range of skills acquisition which including;
– Technical Skills: Solar installation, welding, aluminum fabrication, and furniture making.
– Creative Arts: Bag making, frame making, photography, cake baking, and graphic design.
– Beauty and Fashion; Make-up artistry, hairdressing, dreadlock styling, nail technology, and hair installation.
– Digital Literacy: Blogging, artificial intelligence (AI) training, and computer literacy.
The initiative ensured accessibility by establishing training centers tailored to meet community needs while fostering collaboration with local partners.
DHDEI’s programs were categorized into community-based and institution-based initiatives:
Community-Based Programme includes,full-time training opportunities were offered in locations, such as Ikoya, Igbokoda-Ilaje, Supare-Akoko, Ikare-Akoko, Akungba-Akoko, Ile-Oluji, Ondo town and Ugbo-Nla-Ilaje.
Students from higher institutions like Adekunle Ajasin University (AAUA), Akungba Akoko, Ondo State University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH) and Adeyemi Federal University of Education (AFUED), participated.
Part-time, with sessions scheduled during lecture-free hours, weekends, and public holidays.
These programme addressed the unique needs of diverse communities, equipping participants with practical skills for entrepreneurship and employability.
Akingbade Toluwa-Jolomi reaffirmed DHDEI’s commitment to youth empowerment.
“This is just the beginning. We are determined to expand our reach and introduce even more innovative programs in 2025, by ensuring that no youth is left behind.”
The initiative has not only provided a lifeline for unemployed youths but also contributed to economic growth by fostering local entrepreneurship. Many participants have already begun leveraging their new skills to establish businesses, further validating the effectiveness of DHDEI’s approach”, he said.
He said, “as 2024 is draws to a close, the Dakiz Human Development and Empowerment Initiative stands as a beacon of hope for youths across Nigeria, paving the way for a brighter and more empowered future”.
