The award-winning principal of the school, Mrs. Cecila Olokunlade, expressed her heartfelt appreciation for the leadership of the Old Students Association, led by the charming President, Prince Adebisi Ifedayo Adeniyi, affectionately known as “Bisi Gold,” for their generous contributions toward the school’s development.

Speaking to journalists during the school’s commemorative 60th anniversary inter-house sports competition, Mrs. Olokunlade remarked that this year’s event stood out as the best she has witnessed since she began her teaching career.

“The alumni have made significant contributions to the school’s facelift,” she said. “I want to take this opportunity to urge current students to remain disciplined and obedient, as they have witnessed the positive impacts their alumni have had on the school. I am confident they will look to them as role models.”

She also extended her gratitude to the school’s staff, the Anniversary Committee, and the media for their support in making the week-long celebration a resounding success, saying, “Bravo to everyone involved.”

In an interview, the National President of the Alumni, Prince Adebisi Ifedayo Adeniyi, also known as “Bisi Gold,” from the 1975 set, expressed pride in the alumni’s efforts to make the 60th anniversary memorable. He emphasized the school’s profound impact on society, highlighting that it has hproduced over 10,000 accountants since its inception, including more than 100 Chartered Accountants, as well as many professionals in various fields.

“We kicked off the celebration with a Country Trek from the school to Deji’s Palace, followed by a Public Lecture, Inter-House Sports, Health Talks, a Novelty Match between Old Students Boys and Girls, an Award Night, and a Thanksgiving Service,” said Adeniyi.

Among the notable alumni present were Surveyor Ajayi Joseph, Nelson Olatobi, Mr. Feyi Ogoji, Prince Egunjobi Kehinde, the 1984 Set’s Game Prefect, and Right Honourable Kenneth Olawale, former Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly (1978 set).

Others in attendance included Salami Olusanya, Olawale Olakunle, Johnson Kayode, and Mr. Akinmuyisan Bosede, as well as Hon. Adebayo Ayodele, Vice Chairman of Akure South, who congratulated the school community on the success of the 60th Anniversary celebration.

He encouraged the current students to remain focused and dedicated to finishing their studies well.

Prominent alumni such as Ayodele Fajuyigbe Ilesami (1991 set), Chief Bola Olofinwaka (1976 set), and Mr. Feyi Ogoji, Chairman of the 1980 set, also spoke proudly of the school’s legacy.

Mr. Ogoji, in particular, lauded the institution as the foremost specialized school in the old Ondo Province, emphasizing that Akure Secondary Commercial School has produced countless professionals in diverse fields, including chartered accountants and business leaders.

“I often reminisce about my time at the school, sharing nostalgic memories of our experiences. This institution truly molded us,

“It was during our time that the school introduced core sciences—Physics, Chemistry, and Biology—which led to the emergence of many engineers, science professionals, and even military generals among our alumni”, he said.

The celebration of this remarkable milestone highlights the enduring legacy of Akure Secondary Commercial School and the continued commitment of its alumni to shaping the future of the institution and its students.

Gov. Adeleke Warns Newly Sworn-In LG Committee Members Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State, has warned all Local Government (LG) caretaker committee members in the State not to be financially reckless, hence, as this is not a time to marry more wives. Sounding the note of warning during the swearing in of the committee members at the State Government Secretariat, Abere, he added that anyone found engaging in corrupt practices would be severely sanctioned. His words: “Very important is the issue of financial discipline. This is not the time to marry a second or third wife. This is a time of financial prudence. Anyone found engaging in corrupt practices will be severely sanctioned. “Your appointment is part of the process by my administration to kick-start a process that will produce a democratically elected local government system. “I am directing you to hit the ground running by developing your respective local government areas through developmental initiatives.” Recalling that his administration came on board at a time of constitutional crisis at the local government level, the Governor lamented that the previous government grossly violated the constitution and the law by conducting local government elections after its defeat. Insisting that the election was a sham and a waste of billions of taxpayers’ money, Adeleke held that the former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola administration did not comply with the specific provisions of the law. “Our administration adopted legal routes to dismantle the inherited illegality. And as a government committed to upholding the constitution, we have mapped out a sustainable process that will fully restore normalcy to the local government system. “As you are taking office today, you are to take note of the following. “You and your team must fashion out a local copy of the five point agenda for implementation in your local government. This will help to deepen the reach and touch of our administration across the State; “You can also make a difference by developing local development plans for your local areas. This will help to take care of your local peculiarities,” Adeleke added. Recall that on August 15, 2022, the Oyetola administration conducted a local government election in Osun. The election, which was boycotted by all the political parties in the State, except the All Progressives Congress, saw the party claiming an overwhelming victory. However, the Osun Peoples Democratic Party, and other parties sought legal redress which was granted by the Federal High Court sitting in Osogbo. The local government election which was thereby declared illegal made the Adeleke administration appoint Council Managers.
