Cross Creek Golf Club, Ilado Akure Celebrates Justice Akanbi with Iconic Avocado Hole

The Cross Creek Golf Club Ilado Akure has honoured Justice Lambo Akanbi rtd, with Icon Avocado Hole.

Speaking with journalists, the National Secretary of Nigerian Golf Federation of Nigeria, Ben Agbi said the Cross Creek Golf Club, Ilado Akure, is playing tournament in honour of an Icon, Justice Lambo Akanbi retired, for his contributions to the development of golf in Nigeria, meritorious service in his chosen profession and impacts to humanity.

He said over one hundred golfers were here playing in his honour and has made a donation of golf trophies for the competition.

Agbi erase the fear that golf is playing only by the rich peoples.

He said, ” golf sports is for everyone who has passion for it. It is not meant for the rich people. Gowon went to London for treatment and they told him to go back to Nigeria and play golf, today he is doing well as a member of IBB Golf Club.

Also speaking, the founder of Cross Creek Golf Club Ilado Akure, Barr. Olusola Abidakun said he established the golf to showcase the tourism attractions of Ondo State and to provide enabling environment, as the health benefits of golf are enormous.

He stated further that,” the purpose of today tournament is to celebrate our esteemed golfer and father of the Club- Cross Creek Golf Club, Ilado, Akure, Justice Lambo Akanbi retired.

I find it apposite to create an iconic hole called “Avocado Hole”. In the whole of Nigeria there’s never any green wherein the bounkcer is situated within the green.

Today, a lots of golfers came both from Ilorin and other parts of the country to honour and celebrate with Justice Lambo Akanbi rtd. He is the father of Ilorin Golf Club”.

Also in his comment, the Captain of Cross Creek Golf Club, Ilado, Akure, Pastor Isaac Isedowo said the newly hole “Avocado Hole” was dedicated to Justice Lambo Akanbi rtd.

The Avocado Hole 12, is a par-hole measuring 133″ meters with a stroke index of 4, featuring a unique bunker dubbed “Avocado ” on the green and water hazards on the front and in the right hand side.

The club has also initiated several communities focused programmes which includes a Youth Golf Academ. 24 children were enrolled in the Academy. Some of them are on full or partial scholarships.

Additionally, the club is set to host the 10th Western Zone Championship, 2025 edition of the Ladies Golfers Association of Nigeria in August this year to further solidifying its commitment to promote golf in the region”.

The Ondo State Chairman of Nigeria Golf Federation, Hon. Tayo Abidakun commended the initiative and enumirate the health benefits of golf.

In his words, Justice Lambo Akanbi retired, thanks the founder and the entire golfers of Cross Creek Golf Club, Ilado Akure, for the honour bestowed on him.

He said, ” I am delighted to be honoured today by the Cross Creek Golf Club, Ilado, Akure. Its great and fantastic.

The motivation to play golf at tender age is a desire and the health benefits I derived from it”, he said.

The event was graced by distinguished guests, including the club’s founder, Barrister Shola Abidakun, and the Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee, Elder Ayodele Akande.

The unveiling was celebrated with a ceremonial tee-off, marking a significant moment in the club’s history.

It could be recalled that Justice Lambo Akanbi retired was born over nine decades ago, in Accra, Ghana. A prominent Nigerian jurist renowned for his contributions to the legal profession.

He served as the President of the Nigerian Court of Appeal from 1992 to 1999 and was the inaugural Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) from 2000 to 2005. His legacy is marked by his commitment to justice and integrity .

Family, Associates, Groups Rally Round Dr. Olumuyiwa Adu to Give His Late Father, Pa. Joseph Oni Adu a Befitting 7 Days Burial Rites Family members, friends, captains of industries, chieftains of political parties as well as members of various groups on Saturday 3rd August, 2024 rallied round to support Dr. (Barr) Olumuyiwa Adu, a chieftain of All Progressive Congress (APC) at his late father’s 7 days burial rites. Some of the early callers at late Pa. Joseph Oni Adu’s residence include members of Cubana Boys Movement, Adu Women Support Group, Women Support APC, Lucky Boys Support Group, Omo Odua Women Wing – Non Indigene, PDM Adu Global, Leader Sisters Club, Akure, Progressive Women Forum Club, Stand Up for Women Society, Ondo State chapter, Nurses 4 BAT Nigeria, Ondo State, Nurses 4 Aiyedatiwa, Ondo State, Original Omo Odua Men and Women Group, Ebira Community, Adu Support Group Ward 1 and NULGE, Akure South among others. Describing late Pa. Adu popularly known as Old Soldier as God fearing, humble, caring and a generous man who lived a life of impact, many of the guests who recounted his life and times said his son, Dr. Olumuyiwa Adu took after his personality just as they prayed God to grant the family the grace to continue to live out his legacies. Comrade Oluwatuyi Olasoji, NULGE Chairman, Akure South Local Government said, Barr. Adu is just like his late father, a wonderful giver who is committed to making the life of others better. A close family member, Oladeji Falokun who also took time to describe the personality of late Pa. Adu said he not only impacted his immediate and extended family but the entire community. While praying God to grant the family the fortitude to bear the loss, he stressed that no matter how old an individual is, nobody wants to lose a loved one. At the event also was Hon Omolayo Abiodun who said the massive turnout of people testifies to the fact that Dr. Olumuyiwa Adu is greatly loved. ” We are all out here to show our love and to stand by him. Late Pa. Oni was a cheerful and so is the son. I pray that the child he has left behind will continue with his legacies”, he added. Guests were later hosted as the family of late Pa. Adu danced round to celebrate the life and times of Pa. Adu. Dr. Olumuyiwa Adu while appreciating the people for coming out in their hundreds to honour him with their presence said, he is touched by the overwhelming show of love in celebrating his late father’s life. He also acknowledged that his late father lived a life of enduring legacies and that he will be greatly missed. Pa Joseph Oni Adu died at the age 94 and until his death, he was a respected former teacher and Nigerian Army veteran.
