Sanusi Seeks NNPC Audit, Says President Shouldn’t Be Petroleum Minister
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has been subjected to a proper audit, according to former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor Sanusi Lamido Sanusei, who also noted that this call cost him his position at the top bank.
Sanusi announced this while speaking at the Transcorp Hilton’s Congress Hall in Abuja, where the Bank Directors Summit was taking place.
Sanusi insisted that the President not serve as the Minister of Petroleum while serving as governor of the CBN from June 2009 to February 2014.
The Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON) and Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) must continue to serve the former CBN chief until banks band together and settle their debts to the system.
In order to keep the apex bank free of political influences, he added that the banking industry needed to improve its public trust deficit. He also argued that there was no need to amend the CBN Act.
