ONDO 2024: APC Panel Dismisses Petitions Against Aiyedatiwa’s Victory as Baseless
The Ondo Primary Election Appeal Committee has declared the petitions challenging Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s victory in the APC governorship primary as lacking in substance. The committee, chaired by former Bauchi Governor Mohammed Abubakar, submitted its report to the APC National Working Committee in Abuja, confirming that the allegations of irregularities lacked documentary or electronic evidence.
Abubakar highlighted that while the committee received six petitions from aggrieved aspirants, many failed to provide substantial evidence to support their claims. He emphasized the importance of evidence in substantiating allegations, noting that mere allegations without proof were insufficient.
“We asked for documentary or electronic evidence, but many petitions lacked such evidence. Some provided a compendium of alleged party sponsorships, but this did not meet the standards of evidence required,” Abubakar explained.
In response, APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje affirmed the party’s readiness for the upcoming governorship election in November. He expressed confidence in Aiyedatiwa’s candidacy, citing his track record and commitment to continuity in Ondo State’s development.
“We are prepared for the November election. Governor Aiyedatiwa’s candidacy ensures continuity in Ondo’s development. He has served the state in various capacities and is well-equipped to lead,” Ganduje stated.
Meanwhile, Governor Aiyedatiwa, upon receiving his certificate of return, expressed confidence in the APC’s stronghold in Ondo State. He dismissed the threat posed by the opposition, particularly the PDP candidate, Ajayi Agboola, emphasizing the weakened state of the opposition due to defections to the APC.
“Aiyedatiwa reiterated the APC’s dominance in Ondo State, citing the defections of key opposition figures to the APC as evidence of the party’s strength. He emphasized the party’s understanding of the people’s preferences and pledged to run an inclusive government,” the statement said.
