Ikun Community Bids Farewell To Oba (Pastor) Micheal Adedoyin Olokunbola
Ikun community in Akoko South West Local Government area of Ondo State has bids farewell to their monarch, His Royal Majesty, Oba (Pastor) Michael Adedoyin Olokunbola, the Olukun of Ikun Akoko.
The celebration of life and the demise of Oba Olokunbola took place at the New Central Palace, Ikun Akoko, witnessed who is who within and outside Ondo State, includes,Kabiyesis, Regents, Chiefs, Politicians, Clerics, Market women, sons and daughters of the community led by the National President, Ikun Progressive Union ( IPU), Elder Titus Olaniran Orimijupa.
Speaking at the final funeral ceremony of the late monarch, the National President of Ikun Progressive Union (IPU), Elder Titus Olaniran Orimijupa said, the reigned of Oba (Pastor) Michael Adedoyin Olokunbola witnesses tremendous development.
According to him,” Oba Michael Adedoyin Olokunbola would be remembered for his leadership qualities as his reigned brought a lot of nemerous developmental projects to Ikun Akoko.
Before he became the town monarch, the development in the town was through self-help service.
Immediately he was installed as Olukun of Ikun Akoko, the town felt the presence of both the federal and state government.
It was during his time Ikun town first enjoyed the solar light. Ikun town was used as pilot project. We have boreholes and the town started to expand.
The World Bank in conjunction with the community renovated Ajagbokun High School. The World Bank with the support of the community built an ICT Centre and Science Laboratory.
The town have a modern health centre, information centre and a very big town hall. All the bridges in the town was done.
It was during his reigns that Ikun sons became a member of Ondo State House of Assembly and Commissioner, the fit never witnessed in the community before.
He used his connection to invite Ikun sons and daughters to come home to develop the community. He was the links between the old and the young ones.
We people of Ikun Akoko are mourning the loss of our great Oba, who is a symbol of unity”.
Elder Orimijupa stated further that, “in accordance to the customs and tradition of the people of Ikun Akoko, that provides for all traditional rites of passage befitting the holder of Olukun of Ikun stools, that joined his forefathers be concluded within three months, before making a formal announcement of his demise, the formal announcement of his demise was made on 23rd of April, 2024, and all the traditional rites of passage has been done for our Oba”, he said.
In his sermon, the presiding pastor at the final burial ceremony Pastor Otebolaje said, death is a path to heaven. He advised christians to move closer to God, noted that everything acquired in life will become vanity one day.
He described late Oba Pastor Micheal Adedoyin Olokunbola JP, as Oba who used his life to serve God and humanity.
He said, ” there is nothing in this world, because all these things we are seeing are for the meantime. The moment God commands death to take life, it takes it immediately”.
The pastor extolled the virtues of Oba Pastor Micheal Adedoyin Olokunbola JP, and implored all his children, relatives and congregants to emulate him.
He stated further that, “while death is an inescapable way to eternal life, the time and manner it would occurred was unknown to human, hence human beings must live well when they are alive.
He added that, salvation is not inherited, but it is you that have to try your best. Your dad had done his best and has gone to join the saints. We don’t pray for the death because they have received their rewards”
The presiding pastor said, Oba Pastor Micheal Adedoyin Olokunbola JP, is a good fruit, because all the fruits that came out of him were good fruit. He lives a life that shows the goodness of God in anywhere he finds himself, and that is what means to live and die in Christ”.
Speaking with The Focus Magazine, one of the Kabiyesi son, Engr . Tayo Olokunbola said, their father is a man of valour who contributed positively to the success of his children.
“Our late father, Oba Pastor Micheal Adedoyin Olokunbola JP, is a man of valour who contributed positively to the success of his children and Ikun Akoko.
A humble and simple man. Honest, respectable and hospitable. We will forever remember him. He is an epitome of dignity, integrity and a man worthy of emulation”, he said.
Those that speaks with Focus Magazine said Oba Olokunbola, is a someone who is always interested in the welfare of his people. He believed in the development of humankind.
It could be recalled that, Oba Michael Adedoyin Olokunbola joined his ancestors on 23rd January, 2024, after a brief illness. He spent twenty years and eight months on the throne of his forefathers.
