BREAKING NEWS: NATIONAL ASSEMBLY GRANTS FULL AUTONOMY TO THE 774 LOCAL GOVERNMENTS OF NIGERIA AS INEC IS NOW TO CONDUCT LOCAL GOVERNMENT ELECTIONS… “The National Assembly on Tuesday, granted full financial and administrative autonomy to all the 774 local council authorities across Nigeria by amending section 124 of the nation’s constitution. The section provides a consequential provision for the making of the local councils, a full third tier government without undue interference from the state governments. The ammendment was one of the 22 others approved by the House of Representatives last week and ratified by the Senate on Tuesday. Both chambers had through a conference committee harmonised versions of the ammendments into the constitution carried out by each of them last month. By the development, the National Assembly had ratified all the 23 clauses and sections that had been ammended by both chambers. The newly ammended document which would be sent to States Houses of Assembly, for approval, also approved the creation of the Office of Auditor General of the Local Government as well as the State Local Government Service Commission. The section equally deleted the State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC) from the constitution thereby vesting the powers to conduct council elections on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). It however, retained the immunity clause in the constitution for the President and Governors by adopting the Senate version of the ammendments on the issue and rejected the House of Representatives version which removed the immunity clause. The National Assembly also made provisions for Independent Candidacy in future elections in Nigeria by amending sections 65 and 106 of the 1999 constitution…” @highlight

GOV AIYEDATIWA CONGRATULATES HON. D.I. KEKEMEKE ON BIRTHDAY. The Governor of Ondo State, Hon Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, congratulates the National Vice Chairman (South) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon. Isaac Kekemeke, on his 61st birthday. Hon. Kekemeke, a former member of the Ondo State House of Assembly, former Secretary to the State Government and former Chairman of the National Examination Council (NECO) is a former Chairman of the APC in the State. Governor Aiyedatiwa describes Hon. Kekemeke as a dedicated public servant, a political leader of repute and a champion of the people. The Governor hails the contributions of Hon. Kekemeke to the development of Ondo State in many capacities that he has served, as well as his role in making the APC a ruling party in the State. Governor Aiyedatiwa also acknowledges the roles played by Hon. Kekemeke towards the enthronement of the Renewed Hope Agenda administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The Governor wishes Hon. Award For The Dualization of Ore-Ondo-Akure Road and Benin- Akure- Ilesa Road, a recipe for investment opportunities and economic development of Ondo State – Moyosola Niran- Oladunni The Converner of Kalesanwa Socio-Political Group and former governorship aspirant in Ondo State, Moyosola Niran-Oladunni has said the recent approval for the Dualization of Ore-Ondo-Akure Road and Benin-Akure- Ilesa Road by the federal government is a great recipe for rapid investment opportunities and development of Ondo State. The former aspirant applauded the federal government for approving the road projects. Speaking with The Focus Magazine, Oladunni said this opportunity will allow investors to come and invest in the state. He said, ” The award for the Dualization of Ore-Ondo-Akure road and Benin-Akure-Ilesa road by the Federal government is a recipe for investment opportunities and economic development of Ondo State. This opportunity will allow investors to come and invest in the state, thereby providing employment opportunities for the youths and enhancing the economic development of the state. The state has abundant resources, which are begging for attention. ” Oladunni stated further that, for any investor to come and establish industry in any state or country, there must be access to good roads for the transportation of their goods and services. He thanked the federal government for counting Ondo State among the states that benefit from the projects. It could be recalled recently that after the Federal Executive Council meeting, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu approved 13 road projects in various states across the country worth about #1.455tn, which includes two major roads in Ondo State. The two roads are Benin-Akure – Ilesa Road, a 3ookm concrete pavement dual carriageway with a contract sum of #525bn, awarded to HiTech Construction, Benin-Akure, by Ilesa (section 2). The second road is Ore-Ondo-Akure road, which is under special intervention due to flooding. It is 24 months long and has a total contract sum of #134bn. It was awarded to CBC Nigeria Limited, which will use concrete because of the terrain.
