Tax is critical to nation’s, Ondo Deputy Governor

Kayode Akinmade, loses father An High Chief, Moses Ade Akinmade, the Obamoluwa of Idanre Kingdom is dead. The late Obamoluwa is the father of the Special Adviser on Media and Strategy to the Ogun State governor, Dapo Abiodun, and former Ondo State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Hon. Kayode Akinmade. The media guru announced he passing of the nonagenarian in a statement issued on behalf of the Akinmade family of Idanre, Ondo State, on Tuesday. Hon. Akinmade, who served as Special Adviser on Media to the then Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Dimeji Bankole, stated that the sad event took place on Monday evening. The statement said that even though the family has been hard hit by the demise of the agriculturist and culture enthusiast, it finds solace in the fact that the deceased lived a highly distinguished life. The veteran journalist and two-time Commissioner for Information in Ondo State described the deceased as a great community leader, cocoa merchant, and socialite. The nonagenarian is survived by his wives and children.

Aiyedatiwa spoke at the Second Annual Dinner of Elizade University Tax Club, (EUTC), held at Ondo State Internal Revenue Service (ODIRS) Hall, Alagbaka Akure on Thursday evening.

The Acting Governor was represented at event by Deputy Chief of Staff, office of Acting Governor, Prince Segun Omojuwa.

He was joined at the event by the Executive Chairman, ODIRS represented by Senior Special Assistant to Governor on Revenue, Mr Olufemi Feyide, Head of Legal Department, ODIRS , Mr Adebayo Ogunsiji, Staff Adviser EUTC, Mrs Anthonia Oloko, President of EUTC, Miss Oluwadamilola Agbaje, among others.

Aiyedatiwa said, the importance of Tax in the development of a nation cannot be over emphasized.

“Tax is statutory, it is compulsory and it is for the purpose of development” .

“For me, Tax is to a nation, as blood is to human system”, he said

He further disclosed that the State Government is stimulating economic growth through sound policies, resulting into healthier economy, leading to increase in revenue generation.

“The independent revenue of the State has systematically improved from the lowly 700 million Naira per month in 2017 to an average of 3.3 Billion Naira in 2023”.

“The internal revenues along with the statutory allocations from the FAAC are being invested in the provision of social amenities and other rapid infrastructural development that have transformed the landscape of Ondo State” .

“The multiplier effects of this can be seen in the surge in economic activities and the big attraction that the State has become for tourists and investors. All of these are a fulfillment of the purpose of Taxation” , declared Aiyedatiwa.

Earlier, Executive Chairman of ODIRS represented by SSA to Governor on Revenue, Mr Olufemi Feyide said, Tax is vital tool necessary for the economic development of any society.

He said ODIRS is one of the Parastatals in the State that has been consistent in it’s responsibilities in the Sunshine State.
