In an interview with TVC News, she said, “I usually didn’t tell people I was Mohbad’s mother, because he was scared I might get kidnapped. I have spent just five months in the new house he rented for me, and he visited me three times before his demise. He took me out of where I was living before to Ikorodu (in Lagos). He said he wanted to be visiting me from time to time.

“He recently rented a space consisting of three shops for me, but I am yet to move there. He gave me money that I used to buy two big freezers and a big generator. The day he died, he promised to send me N5m, so I could buy goods for the shop.”

Abuja-Lagos Highway Ready In 4Years—Umahi

The proposed 470 kilometres Abuja-Lagos Greenfield superhighway will be completed in four years and last 100 years, the Federal Government said Saturday.

Minister of Works, David Umahi, told journalists in Lagos that the road will be built by a private sector consortium at no cost to the government.

The consortium will operate the facility for a yet-to-be-determined period on a build, operate and transfer deal, he said, adding that it will be tolled at different points to enable the investors to recoup their investment.

He assured that the four-and-a-half-hour travel time for vehicles plying the route at 100 kilometres per hour was achievable.

Yoruba Elders Hit Obasanjo over Oyo Obas’ order

Yoruba Council of Elders, YCE, has called on former President Olusegun Obasanjo to apologise to Oyo monarchs for “a shameful affront to the dignity of Yoruba tradition and culture.”

This was contained in a communique issued at the end of the meeting of the Secretary General and State Secretaries of the group in Ado-Ekiti, signed by Elder Niyi Ajibulu, YCE Publicity Secretary (Secretary, Ekiti Council of Elders) and Elder Oladipo Oyewole, YCE Secretary General.

It was reported that Obasanjo had ordered Oyo traditional rulers to stand up in his respect while speaking at an event in Iseyin, last week Friday.

The Elders criticised Obasanjo for desecrating the Yoruba cultural heritage, norms, tradition and values while demanding an apology and restitution from the former President.

“The YCE takes exception to the humiliation recently meted out to various traditional rulers of Oyo State by chief Olusegun Obasanjo upon the claim of status as a former Head of State. This malfeasance constitutes a shameful affront to the dignity of Yoruba tradition and culture and thus stand condemned. He should certainly apologize and make restitution.”

YCE seeks support for Akintoye, Igboho’s return from exile

The Yoruba Council of Elders has urged the Federal Government to, as a matter of urgency, create an enabling environment for the return of all persons on exile.

The Yoruba elders said those in exile included “the personages of Prof Banji Akintoye and Chief Sunday Igboho, who were harassed for advocating proper and dignified treatment of their law-abiding kinsmen”.

The elders spoke in a communique signed by its scribe, Oladipo Oyewole, and Publicity Secretary, Niyi Ajibulu, at the end of the council’s meeting in Ado-Ekiti on Saturday.

They also said YCE had been miffed by the degenerating level of acceptance of the Yoruba language, culture and civilisation, noting that the meeting also deliberated on the presentation of a book, ‘Yoruba Renaissance, Challenges and Prospects’.
